A Background Rooted in Design

Tara Julian

Founded in Charlotte, North Carolina, JST Interior Design was established by Tara Julian, whose creative career began in the world of fashion and textile design. After earning her BFA in Fashion and Textiles, Tara spent more than a decade designing handbags, jewelry, belts, and accessories for leading firms in Boston and New York, eventually serving as Design Director for a top accessory company. Her work took her across Europe, Asia, and South America, where she studied global trends, sourcing, color, and craftsmanship. During her fashion career, Tara earned two U.S. design patents.

In 1997, Tara brought her design expertise to Charlotte, where she transitioned into interior design while building her own home. Shortly after relocating, she began consulting for several Charlotte builders and quickly developed a reputation for creating timeless, livable spaces tailored to each client’s lifestyle. Today, JST Interior Design continues to grow primarily through long-standing client relationships and referrals, with projects spanning homes across the country.

Design Philosophy

Tara believes great design should feel collected, personal, and effortless — never expected or overly trend-driven. Drawing inspiration from fashion, travel, antiques, texture, architecture, and everyday details, she creates spaces that are both beautiful and functional.

Known for her hands-on approach, Tara works closely with trusted craftsmen and contractors to bring each vision to life, often blending high-end pieces with unexpected finds to create interiors that feel layered, warm, and uniquely personal. Her experience as both a designer and mother taught her that durability and good design can coexist, resulting in spaces that are as livable as they are refined.

Her goal is simple: to create homes that reflect the people who live in them while exceeding expectations at every step of the process.

Tammy

Tammy Nowicki brings a cultivated eye and refined sensibility to every interior she designs. With a degree in fashion merchandising and early experience as a retail buyer, she developed an instinct for color, composition, and the art of thoughtful curation. Her background in fashion informs her interiors- where texture, proportion, and balance are considered with intention.

After stepping away professionally to raise her four sons, Tammy returned to the design world in 2016 with renewed perspective and a distinct point of view. That life experience, combined with her trained aesthetic, allows her to create homes that are not only beautiful, but deeply livable.

Known for her sophisticated use of color and her confident blending of antique and contemporary elements, Tammy designs spaces that feel layered, collected, and timeless. She approaches each project with fresh vision and meticulous attention to detail, crafting interiors that are both elevated and personal-never predictable, always considered.
